What are the most powerful cars ever? No I’m not just talking about the cars that hold the record right now. I’m talking about every car that broke through big horsepower barriers over the years. Well to find out I’ve put together a list of the first cars to make one horsepower, 100 horsepower, 200 horsepower going up to the most powerful cars on sale today with more than 2,000 horsepower

- 1885 Benz Motorwagen
The first ever car was of course Benz Patent Motorwagen made by Carl Benz in 1885. This thing barely counts as a car, it only has three wheels and you steered it with a weird tiller thing like on a boat. Anyway it’s one liter, one cylinder engine only made two third’s (2/3) of a horsepower. But that was still a world record. Mainly because it was the only car in the world back then.
2. 1894 Benz Velo
The next car on my list was the first to make a whole horsepower. Oh yes, it was abenz again, the Velo from 1894. It had a one liter, one cylinder engine yet again. But this time with 1.5 horsepower. That more than double the power of the Carl Benz’s first car. Later versions even had three horsepower. Despite this it still didn’t have a steering wheel.

3. 1910 Isotta Fraschini Tipo KM
Isotta Fraschini started out building engines for airships. But it also made cars. Like the Tipo KM from 1910. This had a huge 10.6 liter four cylinder engine. That’s bigger than 2 Audi R8 engines. Although unlike the two R8s, the Isotta had to make do with a 120 horsepower. At least it was the first production car with more than 100 horsepower though.

4. 1912 Benz 82/100
The next car on this list is another Benz. Carl was pretty busy back in early part of the 20th century. His 82/200 model from 1912 was the first car to crack the 200 horsepower barrier. Carl used the same 21 and a half liter, four cylinder engine as in his 1909 Land Speed record car. Which originally came from an airship.
Well that’s it for today. I will be uploading a part 2 soon. Thanks for reading.
Goodbye!
